The Town of Bassendean is a Local Government Area of Western Australia, located in the Perth metropolitan area some seven kilometers east of the CBD. The Town of Bassendean maintains 97 km of roads, and has a population of 13,362. Bassendean is also a suburb within this local government area. Rolf Harris was born in Bassendean, he attended both the Bassendean Primary School and the then Cyril Jackson Senior High School. Cryil Jackson was converted in Cyril Jackson Senior Campus in 1990 to provide specialised study for post high school students gaining entrance into university study. Bassendean is home to the Western Australian Rail Transport Museum. The display has a collection of Steam and Diesel Locomotives, most of these have been restored to operating conditions. Also as part of the collection are a number of Carriages and other equipment associated including the Zanthus station and a signal box from the Perth city station. The West Australian Model Rail association is also housed within the complex, the centre piece of the model rail display is a working scale model, complete with all the characters from the childrens series Thomas the Tank Engine.
